What Motivates You?

If you can discover things that motivate you, you are much better off than simply choosing a life's path. What is the most important thing in your life? Is it freedom? Is it family? Is it money or power? If you had to choose between your spouse and getting a new car, which would you choose? Do you value closeness in relationships or being able to pick up and go whenever you want? Are you motivated by the ability to change the world for the better? Or would you rather spend your time fishing?

Identifying your personal motivations is key when determining your path in life. If you can shape your goals and create an environment which contributes to your passions, you are guaranteed to be more successful than if you drift along in life, getting distracted by whatever comes your way.

Start out by making a list of the things you love, things which make you happy, and things you want to have in your life. Then put them into categories of things, emotions, and experiences. Then choose one of those things and think about what will allow you to have more of that in your life. Surround yourself with people who will encourage you rather than bring you down to their level. Provide an environment which will remind you of what is important. Motivations are different for each person -- it's up to you to find out what motivates you. Set yourself up for success!
